Eds approach

For over a decade, I’ve taught piano to students aged 5 to 75, from aspiring young protégés to adults discovering a new passion. Since becoming a full-time musician after completing my BA in Archaeology and Anthropology at UCL, my joy for teaching has continued to grow, becoming both a key focus and a source of balance in my life.

Being a working musician deeply informs my teaching, allowing me to guide each student with a holistic and practical approach, whatever their goals or ambitions. I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with fantastic musicians in recording studios and on tour across the UK and Europe, most recently performing with my band FEZ at Mallorca Live Festival, where we opened for Iggy Pop.

As my teaching experience has grown, my focus has remained the same: to teach with kindness, purpose and fun. This is reflected in my approach, especially for beginners, where the goal is to make the piano an enjoyable outlet rather than another task to be completed.

I tailor each lesson to the individual, taking into account what they enjoy and what they want to achieve. Whether you wish to work through ABRSM or Trinity grades, explore composition and improvisation, or learn specific songs and genres, lessons are customised to suit your needs.

My lessons are generally structured around four key areas: hand and dexterity warm-ups, technique, case studies (usually pieces we are working on), and theory. I welcome new pupils with open arms and offer an introductory lesson to anyone interested in learning the piano.

FAQs on at home piano lessons in west london

  • No, not at all. You’re welcome to come to me for your piano lessons, or I can bring my professional keyboard to your home in West London to begin your musical journey. As you progress, you’ll eventually need a piano or keyboard to practise on, and I’m always happy to help you find the right instrument.

  • Absolutely. I regularly prepare students for both ABRSM and Trinity exams. Whether you’re learning classical piano, building strong music theory foundations, or working toward higher grades, I’ll guide you through each step at a pace that suits you.

  • Of course! Grades are just one path. If you’d prefer to learn your favourite songs, explore composition, try improvisation, or simply enjoy playing the piano at home, I love teaching that just as much. Every lesson is tailored to what inspires you.

  • Once a week is ideal for most students, giving you enough time to practise what we’ve covered and keep steady momentum. If you have an upcoming ABRSM exam or a specific goal, I’m more than happy to add extra lessons so you feel fully prepared.

  • Absolutely, and I actively encourage it for the first few sessions. It’s a great way to see my teaching style, understand how I approach beginner learning, and ask any questions. Parents in Kensington, Chelsea and Clapham often sit in when starting out, and you’re always welcome.

  • Progress depends mostly on how often you practise. With regular practice and weekly piano lessons, many beginners can read music within a year and comfortably work toward their first grade within 12–18 months. But everyone learns differently, your musical journey will be shaped by your interests, focus and consistency, whether that’s classical piano, improvisation, or simply building confidence at the keys.
